I love the arts. David and I were season ticket holders for Broadway at the Majestic in San Antonio, and some of our favorite date nights have been a show and dinner. What surprises a lot of people moving here is how much live theater is close to Fredericksburg, from our own hometown company to Broadway tours an hour and change away.

Fredericksburg Theater Company (FTC)
Steve W. Shepherd Theater, 1668 S. US Hwy 87 · fbgtc.org
Right here in town, FTC has been putting on musicals, comedies and dramas since 1997, and it is a true community treasure. BroadwayWorld even named it the San Antonio region's Theatre of the Decade. They also run youth theater programs and scholarships for graduating seniors, which is a big deal for families. The theater is intimate, so every seat feels close to the stage.
The Cailloux Theater in Kerrville
305 Washington St., Kerrville · caillouxperformingarts.com
About a half hour away, Playhouse 2000 runs the Cailloux City Center for the Performing Arts, with the 800-seat Cailloux Theater and the smaller VK Garage Theater. You'll find plays, musicals, Symphony of the Hills, touring concerts and youth theater. Their 2026–27 lineup includes holiday favorites like A Christmas Carol in December.
The Point Theatre in Ingram
Hill Country Arts Foundation, 120 Point Theatre Rd., Ingram · hcaf.com
This one is magical in the summer. The Smith-Ritch Point Theatre is an outdoor amphitheater right by the river, and there is also an indoor theater, an art gallery and art classes.
Broadway at the Majestic in San Antonio
224 E. Houston St., San Antonio · Broadway in San Antonio
The Majestic opened in 1929 and is a National Historic Landmark. The ceiling looks like a night sky, and it is one of the most beautiful theaters I have ever been in. The 2026–27 Broadway season includes The Sound of Music, Phantom of the Opera, The Great Gatsby and Wicked. Make a day of it: lunch on the River Walk, the show, and an easy drive home through the Hill Country.

My Tips
- Book early for holiday shows and big Broadway tours. They sell out.
- Check the season first. Lineups change, so look at each theater's website before you plan.
- Make it a date night. Dinner before the show is half the fun.
Living in Fredericksburg means small-town charm with big-city culture a short drive away. Please feel free to call anytime if you want to talk about life here.
